The Creep Is Back
First things first: The creep is back and more useful than ever before. In Starcraft you had to build creep colonies to expand your creep if you wanted to build more Zerg buildings. But in Starcraft 2 the creep makes all your ground units faster and stronger! Fighting on creep gives you a considerable advantage and the more you expand your creep, the better.
There are two ways to expand your creep. The first way is to spawn creep tumors with your Queen. Every creep tumor can spawn another one after about 15 seconds – an easy way to expand your borders.
The second option is to use your Overlords: Once you enter Tier2 they can automatically generate creep anywhere on the map. This is perfect for a hidden tech. You can hide an Overlord somewhere and build a Spire there to hide it from your enemy. He will be surprised when you suddenly attack with Mutalisks that he was unable to scout!

Building “Creep Highways” is an essential Starcraft 2 Zerg strategy. Once you have more than one base, you should connect them with a line of creep ASAP. Since your units move faster on this “highway”, you can build up your army faster and outmaneuver your enemy. Building a creep highway towards your enemy keeps your attack rolling.
Scouting
For Zerg players, scouting was never as important as in Starcraft 2. The Zerg race is far more reactionary than the Protoss or Terrans, but far more flexible, too.
If you want to get your Starcraft 2 Zerg strategy right, you have to scout your enemy early on and keep on scouting him during the whole game. Many players use the 9/10 drone (in other words the 9th drone they spawn) and send it to find the opponents base.
Your objective is to find the production and tech buildings and react accordingly. During the mid and late game, it’s viable to sac (sacrifice) an Overlord now and than and just fly over the opponents base to find out what he’s planning.
Controlling The Map
Another aspect of your Starcraft 2 Zerg strategy is map control. Since you are most likely to react to the enemies actions, you HAVE to know where he’s moving on the map. Position a Zergling at every Xel’Naga Watchtower and lots of Overlords all around the map. But beware: They are also an easy target for Vikings and other air units.
One important thing about Zerg: They always need to be one expansion ahead! If the Terran/Protoss has one base, you need to have 2. If they take their first expansion you have to take your second. Zerg are a macro-intensive race that need to be economically ahead if you want your Starcraft 2 Zerg strategy to succeed. If the enemy earns as much as you do, you are already behind.
And the last really important part of your Starcraft 2 Zerg strategy is your micro (micromanagement). Get intimate with your hotkeys. Put all your buildings and units in control groups. Inject larvae with your queens the second the larvae are spawned to get the most out of every hatchery and overrun your enemy with a horde of Zerg units!
