When playing against a Protoss, scouting is even more important than in other games. Protoss can hide proxy Pylons near your base or even in your base to warp in units extremely fast. To prevent this, scout in and around your base whenever you have reason to believe your enemy is hiding something.
Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss: Fast Reaper
Since the Protoss starts with relatively slow melee units, a Turbo Reaper harass can be very effective. Here’s the build order:
- 10 Barracks

- 11 Supply Depot

If the Protoss is confused you can even build a bunker in range of his Nexus. Bring along an SCV and try to build it somewhere out of sight where the opponent might overlook it. If you manage to complete the bunker, the heavy damage of Reapers against buildings will do the rest.
Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss: 1 Rax Fast Expand
Fast Expand build are always aiming at taking the economical advantage. And they always slow down your unit production in the early game, that’s why this Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss build order only works if your opponent isn’t going for an early push or harass. Scouting, scouting, scouting! Here’s the build order itself:
- 10 Supply Depot
- 12 Barracks
- 13 Gas
- 15 1 Marine
- 16 Orbital Command Upgrade
- 16 Supply Depot
- Tech Lab on Barracks
- 19 Command Center
As you can see, you need to build a Wall-In. Build your second Command Center in your main base and immediately add another Orbital Command before you fly it to the natural expansion. This way you accumulate energy for MULES faster and don’t risk loosing your OC while it’s under construction.
Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss: Countering Void Rays
Void Rays are a popular cheese among Protoss players and many Terrans try fancy strategies to stop them – with little results. Going for Vikings or Thors often takes too much time. Especially if you didn’t scout the enemy your defense will not be up fast enough. It’s essential to stop the Protoss from getting mass void rays!

The best way to counter Void Rays is mass Marines. It’s okay to build a Reactor at your first Rax or build another Barrack to get enough Marines fast! The most important thing is not to fight Void Rays when you only have a handful units. Flee and gather your Marines where the Void Rays can’t reach them until you reach a critical mass. Stim Packs work wonders here.
Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss: The End-Game
In the End-game you need some units more than others:
- Ghosts – Use them against units with Shields and energy. Templars and Immortals are your primary aim. Immortals without shields are dead weight.
- Vikings – Build them even if the Protoss has no decent air army. Vikings can attack Colossi due to their size and are very effective to snipe them in huge battles.
- MMM – Medivacs, Marines Marauders are your standard army and effective against every Protoss unit.
