There are two possible way to execute the 4 Gate: With and without Zealots before Stalkers. Here’s the build basic build order (Zealot before Stalker):

9 Pylon
12 Gateway + Send one Probe to scout
14 Assimilator
16 Pylon
18 Cybernetics Core
19 Zealot
23 Pylon
24 Stalker
25 Warpgate research
27 Gateway
28 Sentry
30 2x Gateway
21 Proxy Pylon

Now, it’s very important to build the last to Gateways AFTER killing the hostile Probe scout and blocking your ramp – this way you will make it at least harder for your opponent to read your movement. He has to predict whether you are planning a 4 Gate rush or not.

Once you have attacked there are 3 possible transitions, depending on how well the battle went for you and how many units you and your opponent have left.

You have lost your army but killed enough hostile units to even the cost? Then the best Starcraft 2 Protoss vs Protoss strategy is to expand at your natural. Your enemy won’t have many units for a counterattack and you can secure your expansion with a Pylon and warped-in units.
You have beaten the opponent’s army and still have units left? Warp in reinforcements and seal the deal right there. GG.

There’s a chance the Terran will add more Reaper and stick to his strategy. But the Probe count should be in your favor, that’s why you can just take a Probe to add a 2nd Gateway ASAP and stop his cheese. If you manage to hold off the initial rush, you can start the counterattack.

Do not forget to add at least 1-2 Zealots to distract his Marauder, if he manages to make the transition in time. This build order can also be used to rush Stalkers and surprise your enemy if he neglects scouting.

Starcraft 2 Protoss vs Terran Strategy: Beating The Terran Ground Army

Sooner or later most games will come to the point where the Terran opponent masses an army of MMM (Marines, Marauders, Medivacs), some Tanks and Vikings.

Protoss players have to counter it with their own ground army, but beating the Terran is hard. First of all you have to have the right unit composition. Scout the Terran and get a look at how many Marines / Marauder /Tanks he adds to the army.

Never go on with a BO after scouting that your enemy is actually going to counter it. And never try to fast expand when the opponent is going for a rush.

Starcraft 2 Protoss Build Order: Dark Templar Rush

Goals: The DT build order works extraordinary well against Zerg – if you manage to hide your tech. A Zerg player has only two ways of detecting your Dark Templars: Spore Colonies and Overseer.

Overseer require the Lair tech and Spore colonies can easily destroyed before they are finished. Take out as many Drones / SCVs / Probes as you can before the enemy builds a detector to get a great economical advantage. Without any detector it’s GG anyway.

Goals: This semi-all-in move allows you a constant stream of units and neglects early tech and economy to deal a devastating blow to the enemy, trying to end the game with your first attack. If you get the upper hand, you can take map control and expand while denying the opponent’s expansions.

If your supply count or build order gets disturbed, remember to build the last 2 Gateways when the Warpgate research is half done – they will be ready early enough. It’s important to hide the last to Gateways and build them once the opponent’s scout was destroyed.

Most Protoss players execute this Starcraft 2 Protoss build order by building the first proxy Pylon somewhere safe in the middle of the map and then work their way forward. This way the chances to loose the initial Pylon are very low and you can always warp in more units.

Starcraft 2 Protoss Build Order: 2 Base Robo

Goals: This build order allows you to produce a constant stream of expensive Robo units: Colossi and Immortals. Since you can easily switch from Colossi to Immortals, you can adept to the situation very fast: Colossi for Hydra/Zergling or mass Marines or Zealots, Immortals for Roaches / Tanks / Marauder / Stalker.

Execution: First things first: Every base can keep up 3 Gateways and 1 Robo, so you will have 6 Gates and 2 Robos once you secure your expansion.

Since this is a mid-game build, I will pass on the exact early-game BO in favor of a detailed description of the possible transitions.

Mass Roaches – Switch to Immortals immediately as they are the hard-counter. The Sentry’s “Guardian Shield” works wonders against the low Roach damage.
Mutalisks – Cut one of your Robos for a Stargate and produce Phoenixes.
Corruptors – Huge threat to your Colossi as they can attack them from air. Get Blink Stalkers/Templars and snipe them down at the beginning of the battle!
Infestors – Use Force Fields to keep them out of range. If an Infestor manages to control one of your Colossi, don’t snipe your own unit but try to snipe the Infestor ASAP.

Welcome to this article about the Starcraft 2 Protoss Strategy. Just as in the original Starcraft the Protoss are the race that is easy to start with but hard to master. There are more useful units, special unit abilities and build orders than ever before.

I will show you the key concepts of every Starcraft 2 Protoss Strategy that every Protoss player has to master.

Starcraft 2 Protoss Strategy: Chrono Boost

This new and innovative ability is the Protoss macro mechanic in SC2. Located at your Nexus and available without any research, this ability uses 25 energy and increases the research/production speed of the target building by 50% for a total of 20 seconds.

Chrono Boost works on any of your production buildings and research buildings. Another important point is, that it also reduced the cooldown on your Warpgates!

The ability has two major functions: First you can produce Probes much faster in the beginning of the game to get an economical advantage. Secondly you can boost important techs and units which leads to many interesting strategies.

One major mistake inexperienced players make is to forget about the Chrono Boost during the mid-game. Always have your Nexus on a hotkey and look at your energy supply – boost your unit production whenever possible during the whole game!

Starcraft 2 Protoss Strategy: Colossi and Immortals

I want to underline how important these two units are because too many players use them as “just another unit” in their army.

The Immortal has the “Hardened Shield” ability: As long as the Shields are active, the incoming damage is reduced to the number 10.

Here are some numbers for you:

Siege Tank: 25 damage vs armored units in normal mode, 50 in siege mode
Ultralisk: 40 damage vs armored units
Immortal: 50 damage vs armored units

As you can see, Hardened Shields give you an invaluable advantage against all those hard-hitting units. Immortals deal amazing damage against armored units and are the perfect tank-hunters. In a combat, maneuver them directly to the tanks for maximum effect or simply smash those Marauder / Roaches / Stalkers.

The Colossi are big and impressive, but many Protoss players forget that they can also be attacked by everything that hits flying units. This makes them vulnerable to Vikings and Corrupters.

However, if you manage to protect your expansive Colossi, you can melt away most other units. The Colossi are a part of almost any Starcraft 2 Protoss strategy, and here’s how to use them: First, research their range upgrade. Now they can support you from behind your front line and are a lot less vulnerable. Secondly use the Sentinel’s Force Field to block off Marines/Marauders or Roaches/Hydras and shot them from the distance with your superior range.

Starcraft 2 Protoss Strategy: Warpgates

Another new aspect in SC2 is the Warpgate tech. With this technology you can upgrade your Gateways to Warpgates, allowing you to warp in unit wherever you have a Pylon or an active Warp Prism.

Once you have upgraded your Gateways to Warpgates, they don’t have a unit queue anymore. You can only warp in one unit, then a cooldown is activated. The cooldown depends on the unit you warped in:

Zealot – 23 sec.
Stalker – 32 sec.
Sentry – 32 sec.
High Templar – 45 sec.
Dark Templar – 45 sec.

Although you can warp in your units directly on the battlefield, the missing building queue makes it harder for many inexperienced players to keep up with the production as you have to have a look on your cooldown all the time. But without the Warpgate tech, your Starcraft 2 Protoss strategy only has little chances to be successful.

Conclusion:

Protoss are easy to play, but hard to master. Most of their units are highly specialized and all the special abilities like Chrono Boost and Warpgates make it difficult to macro them successfully. Even more abilities like Force Field and Psi Storm make the micro highly effective, but even more difficult to master.

Once you know all your units and can cast the abilities at the right time, the Protoss become an army that can hardly be beaten.

While there are are many Starcraft 2 Terran vs Terran strategies, in the end it comes all down to your Siege Tanks. It’s the most important unit and most of the times the player with the larger Tank army wins the game. But a lot of control is needed to get the larger Tank army and – more importantly – to keep it alive.

Starcraft 2 Terran Vs Terran: War For Air Superiority (Air Army)

When browsing through forums you will read a lot about how important air superiority is in TvT. Unfortunately most inexperienced players bring the whole topic down to “Who has more Vikings” and don’t know why they need Vikings anyway.

The war for air dominance is all about the sight on the map! When positioning your army you use flying building like Barracks to make use of the full range of your tanks. Barracks have lots of hitpoints and cost only 150 minerals. As long as you can see and shoot at your enemy and the other Terran can’t shoot back because he can’t see your Tanks, you have the advantage.

But sooner or later the other Terran will build a bunch of Vikings to destroy your Rax with their insane range. That’s when it’s your Starcraft 2 Terran vs Terran strategy to fight for the air dominance. As long as you have the air advantage, you can prevent the enemy from getting mass Vikings.

Having the air dominance also allows you to utilize Banshees, Dropships and Ravens to their full potential! Harass Expansions with Medivac Dropships, drop a Hunter-Seeker-Missle into the bulk of Marauders and Banshees can scout, deny scouting and harass the enemy.

Starcraft 2 Terran vs Terran: War For The Best Position (Ground Army)

No matter how important those Vikings are to keep the air dominance, it’s your Tank-Marauder army that wins you the game.

Marauders with Stim-Paks are insane against hostile Tanks but you have to be prepared to loose a lot of them in the process. Later in the game you can even snipe an Command Center and destroy a whole Expansion if you are fast enough.

But the most important aspect of the Starcraft 2 Terran vs Terran gameplay is to get your Siege Tanks in the best possible position. This position is usually behind your line of Marauders or on high ground where they are completely safe thanks to your air superiority.

Winning against another Terran means breaking through his Tank line our starving him out (which means he has to break through your own Tank line). You have to constantly control the map and react quickly on every move your opponent makes. Move your army slowly, carefully, step-by-step towards the hostile base. Once you contain your enemy at a vital spot on the map, it’s usually GG as it’s hard as hell to break through a well-prepared contain.

You have to position your Tanks in a line and not to close to each other or you will loose more than necessary to an attack. Your Marauders are the meat shield for your Tanks, but they are also super effective against hostile Tanks.

Don’t forget to take out the other Marauder Army with well-aimed Hunter-Seeker-Missles.

Conclusion:

Fight hard to get the air superiority but never forget that it’s the Siege Tanks who win the game for you. Always find the best possible position for your army and spread it out to get the best shot at your enemy. Scan the map to find out when your enemy is out of position and allows you to get closer to his base or launch an all-out attack!

Ravens and Banshees can demolish the other Terrans army. You can harass, scout and prevent hostile harass and scouting as long as you have the air superiority.

When playing against a Protoss, scouting is even more important than in other games. Protoss can hide proxy Pylons near your base or even in your base to warp in units extremely fast. To prevent this, scout in and around your base whenever you have reason to believe your enemy is hiding something.

Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss: Fast Reaper

Since the Protoss starts with relatively slow melee units, a Turbo Reaper harass can be very effective. Here’s the build order:

10 Barracks
10 Refinery
11 Supply Depot
Immediately add Tech-Lab
Immediately add Orbital Command
Build Reapers

Now attack with your very first Reaper and send the rest as reinforcements as fast as you can. You will want to go straight for the mineral line, but in almost all cases the Protoss will have a Zealot to defend his base.

Kite the Zealots and don’t let even a single Reaper die! If you don’t know what kiting means: It’s the way of moving your unit, always staying out of range and pressing the “hold position” or “attack” button to fire a single shot before moving again.

If the Protoss is confused you can even build a bunker in range of his Nexus. Bring along an SCV and try to build it somewhere out of sight where the opponent might overlook it. If you manage to complete the bunker, the heavy damage of Reapers against buildings will do the rest.

Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss: 1 Rax Fast Expand

Fast Expand build are always aiming at taking the economical advantage. And they always slow down your unit production in the early game, that’s why this Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss build order only works if your opponent isn’t going for an early push or harass. Scouting, scouting, scouting! Here’s the build order itself:

10 Supply Depot
12 Barracks
13 Gas
15 1 Marine
16 Orbital Command Upgrade
16 Supply Depot
Tech Lab on Barracks
19 Command Center

As you can see, you need to build a Wall-In. Build your second Command Center in your main base and immediately add another Orbital Command before you fly it to the natural expansion. This way you accumulate energy for MULES faster and don’t risk loosing your OC while it’s under construction.

Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss: Countering Void Rays

Void Rays are a popular cheese among Protoss players and many Terrans try fancy strategies to stop them – with little results. Going for Vikings or Thors often takes too much time. Especially if you didn’t scout the enemy your defense will not be up fast enough. It’s essential to stop the Protoss from getting mass void rays!

The best way to counter Void Rays is mass Marines. It’s okay to build a Reactor at your first Rax or build another Barrack to get enough Marines fast! The most important thing is not to fight Void Rays when you only have a handful units. Flee and gather your Marines where the Void Rays can’t reach them until you reach a critical mass. Stim Packs work wonders here.

Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss: The End-Game

In the End-game you need some units more than others:

Ghosts – Use them against units with Shields and energy. Templars and Immortals are your primary aim. Immortals without shields are dead weight.
Vikings – Build them even if the Protoss has no decent air army. Vikings can attack Colossi due to their size and are very effective to snipe them in huge battles.
MMM – Medivacs, Marines Marauders are your standard army and effective against every Protoss unit.

This article is all about Starcraft 2 Terran vs Zerg strategies and what you have to keep an eye on when fighting a Zerg opponent.

The first thing that you have to think about is you Wall-in. Zerg players often start with an aggressive attack called the “Baneling Bust”. Here’s how to counter it: First of all, send one of your SCVs to scout the enemy like you always do. If you spot an early Extractor, it’s a signal that your opponent is about to prepare a Baneling Bust.

Since the Zerg will target the weakest buildings (Depots), you can either try to wall-in using only buildings with lots of hitpoints or simply build a second line of bunkers and depots right after your first line. While the Banelings might destroy the first line of Depots, the second should resist the attack.

Starcraft 2 Terran vs Zerg: Hellions to Banshees

A strategy that is very popular among Terran players is to start the game with an early Hellion Harass and make a quick transition into Banshees. While only a few Hellion attacks actually manage to end the game, the fast Banshees can often catch the Zerg off guard.

Start by building a Reactor with your Rax. As soon as your Factory is up, switch the buildings and attach the Factory to the ready Reactor. Then produce 2 Hellions and attack immediately, you can send the rest as reinforcements.

Now build your Stargate and build Void Rays right away. Attack as fast as possible and send the new VRs directly to your opponents base. Try to inflict as much damage as possible: Kill Overlords, Extractors, Drones and whatever you can easily snipe. Fighting Queens is not effective – but forcing him to build more Queens delays his economy and tech.

Zerg are hungry for Expansions and will eagerly take their natural expansion right away. Punish them by going for army-heavy builds that allow you to make a huge timing push like the 4 Gate build order.

Most Zerg players prefer to build a lot of Drones and neglect their army – thinking they have the production capacity to spawn an army if needed. If you manage to hide your 4 Gate Push by blocking the ramp and sniping Overlords, you can take them by surprise and overrun the Zerg in one move.

The Orbital Command is an important part of every Starcraft 2 Terran strategy: It allows you to call down Mules (mineral harvester) or Scan the map (reveals map and detects cloaked and burrowed units).

Mules are the backbone of every Terran base. While they are active they harvest minerals very efficiently, making the Mule worth about 300 minerals. I strongly recommend you to put your Orbital Command on a hotkey of your choice and call down a Mule whenever you have enough energy.

The second ability is to scan the map. It costs exactly as much energy as calling down a Mule – that’s why scanning the map “costs” you about 300 minerals every time you do it. There are situation when you just have to scan – Dark Templars, hidden techs, expanding the range of your Siege Tanks…. but generally the energy should be invested in a Mule instead of a scan.

When you are about to claim your natural expansion, here’s a trick: Build the Command Center in your main base and add an Orbital Command ASAP. This way the enemy can’t scout it, it can’t be attacked while under construction and while you fly it to your expansion it already accumulates energy!

Starcraft 2 Terran Strategy: The Strongest Defense

Since almost any starting location in SC2 is accessible only through a small ramp, your primary early game Starcraft 2 Terran strategy is to seal off the ramp with your buildings. Blocking the way in this manner is called a “Wall-In”
